Evidence-Based
EMDR is recommended by the World Health Organization, the American Psychological Association, and the VA as a frontline treatment for trauma and PTSD. It's one of the most well-researched therapies available — and it works for far more than just PTSD.
What Is EMDR
How EMDR Actually Works
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It works by helping your brain reprocess memories that got stuck during overwhelming experiences. When something traumatic or distressing happens, your brain sometimes can't fully process it in the moment. That unprocessed memory gets stored with the original emotions, physical sensations, and beliefs — and continues to get triggered by present-day situations.
During EMDR, your therapist guides you through sets of bilateral stimulation — typically eye movements, tapping, or audio tones — while you focus on a specific memory or belief. This activates your brain's natural healing process, allowing the memory to be reprocessed and stored in a way that no longer carries the same emotional charge.
You don't forget what happened. But the memory loses its grip. The panic, the shame, the sense of danger — these begin to dissolve. What once felt overwhelming becomes something you can hold with perspective and steadiness.

Session Walkthrough
What an EMDR Session Looks Like
Preparation
We spend time building safety and grounding resources before any reprocessing begins. You'll learn to regulate your nervous system and we'll identify the specific memories or beliefs we want to target. This phase is essential and can't be rushed.
Reprocessing
During reprocessing, you'll hold a memory in mind while following bilateral stimulation. You'll notice thoughts, emotions, and body sensations shifting as your brain naturally processes the material. You're always in control and can pause at any time.
Integration
After reprocessing, we check in about what shifted and install positive beliefs to replace the old ones. Between sessions, you may notice dreams, new insights, or emotional shifts as your brain continues integrating the work. This is a sign of healing.
EMDR doesn't ask you to talk through every detail of your worst experiences. It asks your brain to finish processing what it couldn't before.
You don't have to keep being controlled by the past. EMDR therapy can help your brain finally process what it's been holding. In-person in Miami Beach and virtual throughout Florida.
